David's Favorite Dill Pickles

  1. Soak whole cucumbers overnight in cold water and 1/2 teaspoon alum.
  2. Then wash and slice as desired.
  3. Pack into hot jars - to each jar add 1 1/2 teaspoon dill seed and add 1 to 3 whole garlic cloves.
  4. Mix vinegar, water, and salt.
  5. Boil and pour over cucumbers in hot jars and seal.
  6. Brine will cover about 8 quarts of pickles.
