The Appliest Apple Dumplings

  1. For Syrup: Combine all ingredients and heat to boiling.
  2. Set aside.
  3. For dumplings: In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Cut in the shortening then stir in the milk to make a soft dough.
  5. Divide dough into six pieces.
  6. Roll each piece into a 1/8 inch thick square.
  7. Set apple in center of square.
  8. Sprinkle apple with some cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg.
  9. Place a small pat of butter atop apple.
  10. Moisten edges of pastry square and fold up over the apple sealing at the top.
  11. Repeat with remaining 5 apples.
  12. Set prepared dumplings in a baking pan and pour syrup over dumplings.
  13. Bake in preheated 375 F oven for 35 minutes.
