Assyrian Kelachi (Walnut Stuffed Pastry) Recipe
- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. butter
- 1 x egg
- 1 tsp baking pwdr
- 1 c. water or possibly lowfat milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Mix the flour, baking pwdr and salt, then add in the butter, egg and water or possibly lowfat milk.
- Mix well till it is smooth pastry.
- Let stand for half an hour.
- Stuffing2 c. grnd walnuts1/2 c. sugar1 tsp.
- cardamom
- Mix walnuts, sugar and cardamom.
- Cut pastry into walnut-size pcs.
- Flatten and stuff with 1 tsp.
- of walnut mix; shape like a diamond, then brush with beaten egg.
- Arrange on a cookie sheet.
- Bake for half an hour in 400-degree oven.
