The Cut Edges Are The Key: Beautiful Sandwiches
- 1 loaf worth Thinly sliced sandwich bread
- 2 Boiled eggs
- 1 Mayonnaise
- 5 Imitation crab sticks
- 1/4 Onion
- 1 Cucumber (small Japanese type)
- 2 slice Tomato slices
- 4 slice Ham
- 3 leaves Lettuce
- Make the egg salad: Crush the eggs using a whisk.
- Add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and season with salt and pepper.
- Slice the onion and half the cucumber thinly as shown in this photo.
- Massage with salt, rinse off, and squeeze out tightly.
- Make the crab stick salad: Mix the cucumber and onion from Step 2 with shredded crab sticks and mayonnaise, and season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the sliced bread with butter, and line up 2 slices next to each other.
- Place a lettuce leaf on each, and squeeze on a little mayonnaise.
- Add the sliced tomatoes.
- Cut the ham in half, and place the slices next to each other as shown.
- Put a slice of bread on each sandwich.
- Put another slice of bread on the top of each sandwich.
- Spread the crabstick salad on top, and cover with bread again.
- Place 2 more slices of bread on top of the stacks.
- Spread the egg salad, top with 2 slices each of thinly cut cucumber (sliced in 8 cm long slices) and cover with a slice of bread each.
- (You'll end up with 2 stacks of 3 sandwiches each.)
- Slice the sandwiches into thirds.
- Use a serrated bread knife.
- If you don't have one, cut slowly, using a back-and-forth sawing motion.
- Be sure to wipe the knife clean between cuts.
- Line up the sandwiches so that the cut sides look pretty.
- You can also cut the sandwiches into triangles or quarters, or however you like.
