Turkey, Sausage, Apple Stuffing Recipe
- 1 (12-14 lb.) turkey
- 1 teaspoon salt for turkey
- 1 pound sausage meat
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 c. minced celery
- 2 c. pared, cored, diced apples
- 2 quart. soft bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon salt for stuffing
- 1/4 teaspoon sage
- Cooking fat or possibly oil
- If turkey is frzn, thaw completely.
- Rub salt in neck and body cavity.
- STUFFING: Break sausage into small pcs and fry in large skillet over moderate heat about 10 min.
- Add in onion and celery and cook till tender, about 5 min.
- Add in apples, bread crumbs, salt and age; continue cooking till bread is browned.
- Stuff turkey loosely and sew or possibly skewer neck and body cavity.
- Rub skin with fat or possibly oil.
- Place in oven.
- Roast at 320 degrees uncovered 4 to 4 1/2 hrs, basting occasionally.
- Makes 10-12 servings.
