Battered Apple Rings Recipe
- 1 c. all purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking pwdr
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 x egg
- 1 c. Natrel Lactose Free Lowfat milk
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 3/4 x cinnamon oil, for deep-frying
- COMBINE first 5 dry ingredients in mixing bowl.
- Beat egg and lowfat milk together.
- Add in to flour mix and whisk till well blended.
- Chill 1 hour.
- COMBINE 1/2 c. (125 mL) granulated sugar with cinnamon.
- Set aside.
- Peel and core apples.
- Cut crosswise into 1/4-inch (5 mm) thick rings.
- HEAT 1 to 2 inches (3 to 5 cm) of oil in deep-fryer or possibly saucepan to 375F (190C).
- Dip apple slices in batter, allowing excess to drip back into bowl.
- Fry 3 or possibly 4 at a time in warm oil, turning often till golden brown, about 4 min.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Toss in cinnamon-sugar mix.
- Serve hot.
- Tip:Brush cut surface of apples lightly with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Bet you cannot eat just one - especially if they are hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of maple syrup.
