Hearty Mexican Soup

  1. Drain juice from tomatoes into a skillet.
  2. Saute onion, chilies, jalapeno, and garlic; transfer to stockpot.
  3. Add remaining ingredients, except tortillas, cheese, and avocado.
  4. Simmer uncovered 1 hour.
  5. Add tortillas; cook 10 minutes.
  6. Pour over cheese and avocado in bowls.
