Savory Pepper Steak

  1. Coat steak with mixture of flour, salt and pepper.
  2. In large skillet, brown strips in shortening.
  3. Drain tomatoes, reserving liquid.
  4. Add reserved liquid, water, onion, garlic and gravy base to meat.
  5. Cover; simmer 1 1/4 hours or until meat is tender. Uncover; stir in Worcestershire and add green peppers.
  6. Cover; simmer meat and peppers for 5 minutes.
  7. If gravy is too thin, combine 1 to 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour with an equal amount of cold water; stir into sauce.
  8. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
  9. Add drained tomatoes, cut up; cook 5 minutes more. Serve over hot cooked rice.
  10. Makes 6 servings.
