Basic White Bread

  1. Place milk, sugar, salt, and butter into a small sauce pan.
  2. Heat over low heat until butter melts and sugar disolves.
  3. Cool to lukewarm.
  4. Dissolve yeast in warm water in warmed mixer bowl.
  5. Add lukewarm milk mixture and 4 1/2 cups of flour.
  6. Attatch bowl and PowerKnead Spiral Dough hook to mixer.
  7. Turn on speed 2 and mix for about 1 minute.
  8. Continuing on Speed 2, add remaining flour 1/2 a cup at a time, and mix about 1 and 1/2 minutes or until dough starts to clean sides of the bowl.
  9. Knead on Speed 2 for 2 minutes longer, or until dough is smooth and elastic.
  10. Dough will be slightly sticky to the touch.
  11. Place dough in greased bowl, turning to grease top.
  12. Cover.
  13. Let rise in warm place, free from draft for 1 hor, or until dough is doubled in bulk.
  14. Punch dough down and divide in half (if disired).
  15. Shape each half into a loaf, and place in greased baking pans (if disired).
  16. Cover.
  17. Let rise in warm place free from draft, for 1 hour, or wuntil doubled in bulk.
  18. Bake at 400F for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  19. Remove from pans immediatly and cool on wired racks.
