Thanksgiving Apple Salad

  1. Stir together the sugar and flour.
  2. Whisk in the cream.
  3. Pour the cream mixture into a heavy nonaluminum saucepan.
  4. Continue mixing, add the pineapple, and cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add the butter; remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool.
  6. When cooled, add the apples, nuts, and cherries, and mix well.
  7. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
