Poor-mans pudding (aramans/malva pudding)

  1. preheat oven to 180F.
  2. Celsius
  3. Sieve flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl
  4. add the milk, baking soda, jam, butter and caramel essence and mix with an electric mixer on medium speed until completely blended
  5. pour mix into a baking tray(35 by 20cm) and bake for 25minutes.
  6. while cake is baking make the sauce.
  7. mix evaporated milk, vanilla essence and sugar in a pan and heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  8. once the cake is done, pour the sauce over the cake a little at a time and allow the cake to soak it up.
  9. I only ever use half the sauce and it is nice and moist, but you can use more if you like
  10. serve warm with custard and cream
