Whole Wheat Biscuits Recipe
- 1 1/4 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 1/4 c. unbleached white flour
- 1 1/2 tbsp. baking pwdr
- Dash salt
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 c. Crisco (see below)
- 1 c. buttermilk (may substitute sweet lowfat milk)
- May use all white if you like.
- Thoroughly mix dry ingredients, cut in Crisco till crumbly.
- Add in lowfat milk all at once to make soft dough.
- Roll out on floured board to make dough more manageable, add in extra flour as needed.
- Cut and place on buttered pan.
- Coat tops with melted butter.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 min till golden.
- NOTE: I don't use soda in my biscuits, if you prefer to, add in 1 tsp.
- soda.
- These freeze nicely.
- Just freeze in plastic bag; place on buttered pan and coat tops with melted butter to heat.
- Optional: Use 1/2 c. oil instead of Crisco and just mix all above together.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake.
