Black Dal Recipe

  1. Wash dal and pressure cook in 2 c. water.
  2. Cold and remove from cooker.
  3. Mash very lightly with a spoon.
  4. Heat half the ghee in a deep saucepan.
  5. Add in seeds, asafoetida, and seasoning.
  6. Allow to splutter.
  7. Add in ginger garlic paste, fry for a minute.
  8. Add in onions.
  9. Fry until light brown.
  10. Add in tomatoes and green chillies.
  11. Fry for 2-3 min more.
  12. Add in dal, bring to boil.
  13. Add in turmeric, salt, sugar and lemon juice.
  14. Take in serving dish.
  15. Heat remaining ghee in a small saucepan.
  16. Add in minced coriander to the warm ghee and pour over dal immediately.
  17. Stir gently.
  18. Serve with warm parathas or possibly rice.
  19. Variations: Use any other dal of your choice with same procedure.
  20. To make spicier, add in some curry pwdr.
  21. Making time: 20 min (excluding pressure cooking time)
  22. Makes: 4 servings
  23. Shelflife: Best fresh and piping warm
