Dark Fruit Cake
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. molasses
- 2 tsp. soda
- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. walnuts, chopped
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. currants
- mixed fruit
- 1 small can cherries
- Cream shortening; add
- sugar,
- salt and eggs.
- Dissolve soda in molasses.
- Sifttlour
- and
- spices.
- Add
- to
- mixture alternately with milk.
- Add fruit and nuts last.
- (Rum makes a nice flavoring.) If batter is
- nottood
- and
- stiff, add more flour.
- Bake slowly at 300u0b0 for
- 2tours.take
- is better if made several weeks in advance and wrapped in foil to season.
