Dark Fruit Cake

  1. Cream shortening; add
  2. sugar,
  3. salt and eggs.
  4. Dissolve soda in molasses.
  5. Sifttlour
  6. and
  7. spices.
  8. Add
  9. to
  10. mixture alternately with milk.
  11. Add fruit and nuts last.
  12. (Rum makes a nice flavoring.) If batter is
  13. nottood
  14. and
  15. stiff, add more flour.
  16. Bake slowly at 300u0b0 for
  17. 2tours.take
  18. is better if made several weeks in advance and wrapped in foil to season.
