Chocolate Cherry Cookies
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. softened butter or margarine
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 (10 oz.) jar maraschino cherries (reserve cherry juice)
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. Borden's sweetened condensed milk
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Makes 2 dozen.
- Cook 7 to 10 minutes.
- Mix flour, cocoa, salt, powder and soda in small bowl.
- In separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla and beat well; gradually add dry mixture and mix well (set aside).
- In pan over low heat, melt together juice from the maraschino cherries, chocolate chips and the Borden's milk, then remove from heat after mixture thickens.
- Make 1/2-inch balls out of cookie mixture; place on cookie sheets.
- Press thumb in the middle of each cookie and put 1 cherry in center, then pour 1/1/2 teaspoons of chocolate mixture over cherry and cook for 7 to 10 minutes.
