Chocolate-Covered Cherry Cookies
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1(10 oz.) jar maraschino cherries (about 48)
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
- 4 to 5 tsp. reserved cherry juice
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Beat margarine and sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla and beat.
- Gradually add dry ingredients, beating until blended.
- Shape into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Press in center with thumb to make indentation.
- Drain cherries saving liquid.
- Place cherry in indentation.
- Prepare frosting.
