Apple Cream Pie - Dutch Style
- 6 green apples, pared and cut into eighths
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 9-inch unbaked pastry shell
- 3/4 cup cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 dash salt
- Cinnamon
- Butter
- Prepare apples while bringing 3/4 cup sugar and water to boil in a wide saucepan.
- Add apples, cover and cook gently until syrup has almost cooked away and has become thick.
- Arrange in pastry shell.
- Combine cream, sugar, cornstarch and salt; stir until smooth.
- Pour over apples.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with a tablespoon or two of butter.
- Bake at 425F about 35 minutes or until crust is brown and filling thickened.
