Chewy Caramel Bars
- 1 gal. sweetened puffed wheat cereal
- 2 cups peanuts, roasted, unsalted
- 1 qt. caramels, unwrapped
- 1/4 cup water
- Toss cereal and peanuts in large bowl.
- Place caramels and water in top of double boiler; heat over boiling water until caramels are completely melted, stirring occasionally.
- Pour over cereal mixture; mix lightly until well coated.
- Press cereal mixture firmly into parchment paper-lined full hotel pan (or half hotel pan for trial recipe).
- Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.
- Cut into bars.
- Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
