Easy Sakura Mochi (Domyoji) Using A Microwave Steaming Container
- 150 grams Domyoji-ko (Japanese coarse rice powder)
- 2 tbsp Sugar (granulated)
- 220 ml Water
- 1/2 tsp Red food coloring
- 180 grams Smooth sweet bean paste
- 12 Cherry leaves preserved in salt
- Soak the cherry leaves in a bowl of water to remove excess salt (about 30 minutes).
- Divide the smooth sweet bean paste into 12 equal portions.
- Put the domyoji-ko and sugar in a microwave steaming container.
- Add the water a little at a time while stirring the mixture.
- Add the red food coloring and mix.
- (Mix well or else the color will be uneven.)
- Cover with a lid and microwave for 4 minutes at 600 W. Let sit with the lid on for about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, take the cherry blossom leaves out of the water, and pat dry them with a paper towel.
- After 10 minutes, the mochi dough should look like this.

- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
- Flatten the dough balls, shape them into ovals, and wrap them around the balls of smooth sweet bean paste.
- They should look like this.
- Wrap each sakura mochi with a cherry blossom leaf, and they're done.
