Irish Soda Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 375u0b0.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar; add caraway seed.
  3. Work butter in dry ingredients until it feels like cornmeal.
  4. Add egg to milk, mix well.
  5. Add baking soda to milk mixture, will form bubbles.
  6. Stir and add all at once to dry ingredients.
  7. Mix with fork until well blended.
  8. Dough will be sticky.
  9. With floured hands, form into a ball.
  10. Place in lightly buttered pie plate or cookie pan.
  11. Flatten slightly, cut cross in dough 1/4-inch deep.
  12. Sprinkle flour over top of loaf.
  13. Bake at 375u0b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
