Osechi (New Year's Dish) Made Easy! Tazukuri (Candied Dry Sardines)

  1. Dry roast the nuts.
  2. If using whole almonds, cut them in half before dry roasting.
  3. Remove from pan.
  4. Next, dry roast the dried sardines until brittle.
  5. Crumbs will burn, so stir gently while roasting.
  6. Remove from pan.
  7. Combine all of the seasoning ingredients, then heat on medium until slightly thick.
  8. Add the nuts and sardines, and quickly stir to coat.
  9. Spread evenly on parchment paper to cool.
