Oatmeal Carameletas Bars
- 50 (14 oz. pkg.) light caramels
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk or creme (Carnation)
- 2 c. flour
- 2 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. butter, melted
- 1 c. (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
- 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- Melt caramels in evaporated milk in heavy saucepan.
- Cool slightly.
- Combine remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips and pecans, in large mixing bowl.
- Press half of the crumbs into the bottom of greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips and pecans.
- Spread carefully with caramels mixture.
- Sprinkle remaining crumbs.
- Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer until golden brown.
- Chill 1 to 2 hours, then cut into bars.
