Star Spangled Sandwich Cookies

  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine sugar, 1/2 cup butter, sour cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla in bowl; beat at medium speed until well mixed.
  3. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; continue beating until well mixed.
  4. Divide dough in half.
  5. Working with one-half at a time; roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with 2 1/2-inch star cookie cutter.
  7. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Place wooden craft stick under each star; pressing cookie dough gently into stick.
  9. Bake 5-6 minutes or until lightly browned.
  10. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; carefully remove to cooling rack.
  11. Repeat rolling and cutting with remaining dough.
  12. (Do Not Insert Sticks.)
  13. Bake 5-6 minutes or until lightly browned.
  14. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; carefully remove to cooling rack.
  15. Combine powdered sugar, 1/4 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla in bowl.
  16. Beat at low speed until well mixed.
  17. Add milk; continue beating until well mixed.
  18. Beat at high speed until creamy.
  19. Cover; set aside.
  20. Combine corn syrup and water in another bowl.
  21. Brush glaze over 1 cookie without stick; immediately sprinkle with decorator sugars or sprinkles, as desired.
  22. Repeat with remaining cookies.
  23. Frost bottom of 1 cookie with stick with about 1 teaspoon frosting.
  24. Place 1 decorated cookie without stick over frosting; press down slightly.
  25. Repeat with remaining cookies.
