Wild Rice - Ground Beef(Serves 12)
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 lb. ground turkey
- 3 pkg. Uncle Ben's wild rice with long grain
- 6 Tbsp. diced onion
- 2 small bay leaves
- 1 can consomme
- 2 cans water
- 2 cans cream of chicken soup
- 2 cans sliced mushrooms, drained or equivalent amount of fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 c. chopped toasted almonds
- 2 c. diced celery
- 1/4 tsp. each: celery salt, onion and garlic powders, paprika, poultry seasoning, white pepper and Accent
- pinch of thyme
- 1/2 c. minced parsley
- Cook rice according to direction on box.
- Set aside.
- Grease well 1 very large or 2 medium casseroles.
- In Dutch oven brown meat, breaking it up as it cooks and browns.
- Next add onion and bay leaves.
- Add all the rest of the ingredients and the rice.
- Mix thoroughly.
- Pour into the baking dish or dishes.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- (This step is important to develop the flavors.)
- Place in a 350u0b0 oven and bake for 2 hours.
