German Chocolate Squares
- 1 German chocolate cake mix
- 14 oz. bag caramels (light)
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 3/4 c. butter, melted
- 1 c. chopped pecans
- 6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
- In heavy saucepan, combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk; cook over low heat.
- Stir constantly until caramels melt; set side.
- Grease and flour 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
- In large bowl, combine dry cake mix, butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts. Stir by hand until dough holds together.
- Press 1/2 dough mixture into pan and bake at 350u0b0 for 6 minutes.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked crust.
- Spread caramel mixture over chocolate chips; crumble remaining dough over caramel mixture.
- Return to oven and bake 15 to 18 minutes.
- Cool slightly.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes in pan.
- Cut into bars and wrap.
- Makes approximately 24 bars.
