Oven-Free Wagashi-style Sweet Potato Treats

  1. Slice the sweet potatoes.
  2. Simmer with raisins in plenty of water - cook until soft.
  3. You could also use a microwave or a steamer.
  4. Mash the sweet potatoes while they're hot.
  5. Take care not to mash the raisins.
  6. Taste, and add sugar if necessary.
  7. Set aside and let cool down slightly.
  8. Add the white sesame seed paste and the kinako.
  9. If the mixture is too soft to shape, add kinako.
  10. If too firm, then add the sesame paste.
  11. Form into desired shapes to finish.
  12. I squeezed the balls of the sweet potato mixture in a sheet of plastic wrap, then twisted their tops make the little bundles in the photo.
