Almond Coconut Twinkles - 1953 Winner
- 1 cup flour, all-purpose
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 23 cup sugar
- 2 each egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 cup coconut
- 1 x chocolate frosting *
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
- Blend together the shorthening and sugar until creamy.
- Blend in slightly beaten egg whites and almond extract.
- Add dry ingredients along with the coconut.
- Mix thoroughly.
- Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto greased baking sheets.
- Bake in preheated 375F (190C) oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Cool on wire rack for a few minutes then frost.
