Almond Coconut Twinkles - 1953 Winner

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
  2. Blend together the shorthening and sugar until creamy.
  3. Blend in slightly beaten egg whites and almond extract.
  4. Add dry ingredients along with the coconut.
  5. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto greased baking sheets.
  7. Bake in preheated 375F (190C) oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
  8. Cool on wire rack for a few minutes then frost.
