Rhubarb Strawberry Rolls

  1. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and 1 Tbsp. sugar;
  2. cut in shortening until mixture is like coarse crumbs.
  3. Add combined egg and milk, stirring just until moistened.
  4. Set aside, make syrup of water and 3/4 cup sugar;
  5. cook 5 minutes.
  6. Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.
  7. Mix rhubarb and strawberries.
  8. Roll out dough on slighlty floured surface 1/2 inch thick; brush with melted butter; spread with fruit mixture;
  9. roll as for jelly roll.
  10. Cut 1/2-inch slices; place, cut side down, in hot syrup.
  11. Bake in oven (425u0b0) for 30 minutes.
