German Sweet Chocolate Cake

  1. Cake:
  2. Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water.
  3. Cool.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla; cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar in bowl. Beat in 4 egg yolks, 1 at a time.
  5. Stir in chocolate mixture; add flour, soda, salt and buttermilk, mix well.
  6. Fold in 4 beaten egg whites; pour into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
  7. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes, or until cake tests done; cool.
