German Sweet Chocolate Cake
- 4 oz. German's chocolate
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 c. butter, softened
- 3 c. sugar
- 4 eggs, separated
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 c. evaporated milk
- 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 1 1/3 c. flaked coconut
- 1 c. chopped pecans
- 1/2 c. water
- Cake:
- Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water.
- Cool.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla; cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar in bowl. Beat in 4 egg yolks, 1 at a time.
- Stir in chocolate mixture; add flour, soda, salt and buttermilk, mix well.
- Fold in 4 beaten egg whites; pour into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes, or until cake tests done; cool.
