Bread And Butter Pickles Recipe

  1. Slice the cucumbers and onions in 1/8" rounds.
  2. Put alternate layers of sliced vegetables and salt into a stone crock.
  3. Cover this mix with cracked ice.
  4. Weight this down and let stand 3 hrs; drain well.
  5. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar.
  6. Pour this over the vegetables in large kettle.
  7. Bring to boiling point over low heat.
  8. Pour into jars and seal.
  9. Makes about 6 pints.
