Piccalilli

  1. Remove label from 1 (12 ounce) jar sweet mixed pickles.
  2. Drain juice and thoroughly fill jar with sugar (about 1 1/2 cups), being sure all space between pickles is filled.
  3. Insert table knife in jar to make room for sugar.
  4. Let stand for a few minutes and add more sugar, if possible.
  5. Put a lid securely on jar.
  6. Invert jar and place in refrigerator.
  7. Turn jar occasionally so the sugar dissolves and pickles crystallize.
  8. After a week, refrigeration is not necessary.
