Alarm Chili
- 1 lb. extra lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 2 (28 oz.) cans tomatoes, crushed
- 1 Tbsp. oil
- 2 tsp. oregano
- 2 tsp. cumin
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 Tbsp. baking cocoa
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. crushed hot pepper
- 1 tsp. Tabasco sauce
- 1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- Cook ground beef in 2 1/2-quart saucepan over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes or until well done, stirring until crumbly.
- Remove ground beef with slotted spoon to paper towels to drain.
- Drain and wipe saucepan.
- Saute onion, garlic and green pepper with 1/2 cup tomatoes in oil in saucepan for 3 minutes.
- Add oregano, cumin, chili powder, cocoa, sugar, hot pepper and Tabasco sauce. Cook for 3 minutes.
- Add beans, ground beef and remaining tomatoes.
- Simmer for 25 minutes.
- Yield: 8 servings.
