Lasagna
- 1 lb. sweet or hot Italian sausage
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 finely chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried basil
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. fennel seed
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 1/4 c. parsley
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 4 c. canned tomatoes (undrained; 2 lb. 3 oz.)
- 2 cans (6 oz.) tomato paste
- 1 box lasagna noodles
- 1 (15 oz.) container cottage cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 lb. Mozzarella or Provolone cheese
- 1 (3 oz.) jar grated Parmesan cheese, thinly sliced/grated (3/4 c.)
- Remove the sausage meat from outer casings (ground pork can be substituted); chop the meat. In 5-quart pan, over medium heat, saute sausage or pork, beef, onion and garlic until well browned, about 20 minutes.
