Mom'S Favorite Coffee Bread

  1. Mix dry ingredients together.
  2. Melt margarine over low heat in water and milk.
  3. Allow to cool.
  4. Add to flour-yeast mixture.
  5. Add eggs, beaten and flavorings.
  6. Mix in flour in several steps. Knead into a ball; cover and let rise until doubled.
  7. Punch down and let rest.
  8. Divide dough in half and roll or pat into a rectangle.
  9. Sprinkle nuts and fruit, then roll up and place in loaf or panetone pan.
  10. Let rise until doubled.
  11. Brush top with egg wash or milk; sprinkle with sugar.
  12. Bake on lowest rack at 375u0b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
  13. Loaf should sound hollow when tapped.
  14. You can remove it from pan and bake a little longer on the rack if it doesn't sound right.
