Turtle Cake
- 1 box chocolate cake mix, prepared as directed on the box
- 1 can "ready" chocolate frosting
- 1 (14 oz.) bag Kraft caramels
- 1 c. (8 oz.) chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 1 c. pecans, coarsely chopped
- After preparing the cake mix, bake 1/2 of the batter at 325u0b0 for 10 minutes in a 9 x 13-inch well-greased pan.
- Remove pan from oven.
- Melt the caramels in the milk over low heat, stirring occasionally, or follow microwave instructions.
- Pour the caramel-milk mixture over the cake in the pan.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips and pecans evenly over this.
- Finally, spread the remainder of the cake batter over all.
- Return to the oven; bake 30 minutes longer.
- Let cool 20 minutes.
- Ice in the pan.
- Cut into squares in the pan.
- Serve with ice cream or Cool Whip.
