My Mama's Marvelous Mulled Wine

  1. Combine all the ingredients, except the port and brandy, into a large copper or cast-iron pot (not aluminum).
  2. Simmer while stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add port and brandy.
  5. Heat for 30 seconds.
  6. Pour all into a large heat-resistant bowl or leave it in the pot.
