Garlic Football Toast
- 1 (1-pound) loaf (12 slices) sliced dark pumpernickel or rye bread
- 4 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes Deli Swiss Cheese
- 1/2 cup Land O Lakes Butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 24 roasted red pepper strips
- Heat oven to 350F.
- Cut off crust from each slice of bread with kitchen shears or knife, shaping slice into an oval resembling a football.
- Cut 2 slices cheese into 6 (4x5/8-inch) strips each (12 strips).
- Cut remaining 2 slices cheese into 12 (2x5/8-inch) strips each (24 strips).
- Combine melted butter and garlic salt in small bowl.
- Place bread slices onto large ungreased baking sheet.
- Brush slices with half of butter mixture.
- Bake 4-6 minutes or until toasted.
- Turn slices over; brush with remaining butter mixture.
- Make football design by placing 1 long cheese strip in center of bread.
- Place 2 short cheese strips across long cheese strip.
- Curve 1 slice red pepper on each end of bread about 1/4 inch from end.
- Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Bake 3-4 minutes or until cheese starts to melt.
- Serve warm.
- *Substitute 12 slices whole grain wheat bread.
