Santa Fe Turkey Burger

  1. Heat gas grill to medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.
  2. Place whole jalapeno and red bell pepper on grill.
  3. Cook, turning often, 8-10 minutes or until most of the skin is blackened.
  4. Cool 10 minutes.
  5. Remove stems and seeds of peppers.
  6. Slice jalapeno into 12 thin strips.
  7. Cut bell pepper into 8 pieces.
  8. Set aside.
  9. Combine turkey, cumin, salt, pepper, garlic and cilantro in bowl.
  10. Shape mixture into 4 patties.
  11. Flatten each patty to 4 inches.
  12. Place patties onto grill.
  13. Grill, turning once, 12-16 minutes or until internal temperature reaches at least 165F and meat is no longer pink in center.
  14. Top each burger with 2 slices cheese.
  15. Continue grilling 1-2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  16. Place burgers onto bottom half of buns.
  17. Top each with 3 slices grilled jalapeno pepper and 2 slices grilled red bell pepper.
  18. Top with remaining half of buns.
