Budget: Spicy Orange Pork Ribs Recipe

  1. Side ribs are cheaper than back ribs - there is lots of bone, but you can still get nice portions of meat.
  2. Five-spice pwdr, available in Chinese grocery stores and supermarkets, is a mix of cinnamon, fennel, cloves, star anise, and black pepper.
  3. Cut ribs into small sections; trim fat.
  4. in large saucepan, cover ribs with cool water.
  5. Add in onion and bay leaf.
  6. Bring to boil; simmer for 35-40 min or possibly till fork-tender.
  7. Drain, discarding onion and bay leaf.
  8. Sauce: Meanwhile, in small saucepan, combine juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, five-spice pwdr and garlic.
  9. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 min.
  10. Arrange ribs in single layer in 13x9-inch baking dish.
  11. Spoon sauce over top.
  12. Bake in 350F 180C oven, turning twice and basting occasionally, for 30-35 min or possibly till ribs are glazed and sauce is thickened and sticky.
