Surprise Shortcake

  1. Slice strawberries; reserve some for the top of the cake. Crush half of the berries and mix with 1/2 cup sugar.
  2. Prepare the Dream Whip.
  3. Trim crusts from the bread.
  4. Butter one side of the bread; sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Measure 1/2 cup syrup from the berries and set aside.
  6. Line bottom of a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with bread, buttered side up, trimming slices if necessary to fit pan.
  7. Spoon half the strawberries on bread and 1 cup Dream Whip.
  8. Repeat until last layer from top.
  9. Last layer of bread should be buttered side down.
  10. Drizzle with syrup.
  11. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 3 hours.
  12. Invert onto serving platter.
  13. Frost with Dream Whip and garnish with remaining strawberries.
