Helen C. Morlock'S Lebkuchen
- 4 c. light brown sugar
- 2 c. white sugar
- 2 c. shortening
- 2 large eggs
- 2 or 3 c. sour cream
- 1 pt. light molasses
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 5 lb. flour
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. anise oil
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 c. walnuts or hickory nuts
- In separate bowl, combine the molasses and baking soda. Cream sugars and shortening
- in
- large
- bowl.
- Add
- eggs, sour cream and molasses mixture.
- Add
- flour 1 cup at a time adding the spices and anise oil after
- some of the flour is mixed in. If you are using nuts, mix
- those in also before all the flour is in. Continue adding
- the
- flour until dough does not stick to your fingers.
- Chill
- overnight.
- Roll
- out
- ont
- floured surface, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut with cookie cutters.
- Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet 10 minutes at 375u0b0. Xtn separage bowl, combine the molasses and baking soda.
