Danish Kringle
- 1/2 cake compressed yeast
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 4 c. flour
- 1 c. shortening (1/2 butter if possible)
- 3 Tbsp. sugar or more
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. lukewarm milk
- brown sugar, raisins, dates or prunes and nuts
- Dissolve
- yeast in water.
- Mix flour, shortening, sugar and salt
- as
- pie
- crust.
- Beat
- yolks and add warm milk.
- Add yeast, egg
- and
- milk
- to flour mixture and beat well.
- Cover. Place
- in refrigerator overnight.
- In morning, divide dough in 3 parts. Roll
- into
- thin strips, about 10 inches wide and 20 inches long. Spread
- with
- beaten
- egg whites, layer of brown sugar and fruit. Fold over, lengthwise, and seal edges.
- Bake about 20
- minutes
- in medium
- hot
- oven about 375u0b0.
- Ice with powdered
- sugar
- frosting while hot.
- Spread with chopped nuts or a bit of brown sugar.
