Easy Whole Wheat Bread
- solid shortening
- 2 c. Pillsbury Best whole wheat flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 2 1/4 c. milk
- 1/4 c. oil
- 3 to 4 c. flour
- Using solid shortening generously grease two 9 x 5-inch or 8 x 4-inch loaf pans.
- Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup.
- Level off and combine dry ingredients in large mixing bowl.
- Heat 2 1/4 cups milk and 1/4 cup cooking oil until very warm (120u0b0 to 130u0b0). Add 1 egg and warm liquid to flour mixture.
- Beat 1/2 minute at low speed, 3 minutes at medium speed.
- By hand, gradually stir in 1 cup whole wheat flour and 3 to 4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour to form soft dough.
- Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in greased bowl turning to grease all sides of dough.
- Let rise until double, about 1 hour.
- Punch down and shape into 2 loaves.
- Let rise again 30 to 45 minutes.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
