Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies

  1. Heat raisins and water to boiling; reduce heat to medium or lower.
  2. Simmer, uncovered, until raisins are plump, about 15 minutes.
  3. Drain raisins, reserving liquid.
  4. Add enough water to reserved liquid to measure 1/2 cup.
  5. Mix sugar, shortening, vanilla and eggs in large bowl.
  6. Mix in raisin liquid; stir in remaining ingredients.
  7. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake at 400u0b0 for 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown.
  9. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
  10. Makes about 6 1/2 dozen cookies.
