Cider Calico Beans

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Brown onion in skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook bacon to your liking, I prefer crispy so it holds up well in the sauce.
  4. Remove bacon from the grease and crumble after cool to touch, then set aside.
  5. Brown ground beef, drain.
  6. (Cooking the meats beforehand keeps from having a greasy dish of beans).
  7. In a Dutch oven add the beans, onion, bacon, ground beef and stir to combine.
  8. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, cider vinegar and cold water.
  9. Mix and pour over bean mixture.
  10. Bake for 45 minutes or until bubbly.
  11. Note: Ive also combined everything in a crock pot for a pot luck at work.
  12. Works just as well, but the oven is the preferred method.
  13. Sometimes I will add extra cans of beans.
  14. Ive thrown in black beans and red beans before.
  15. Always drain these types of beans.
  16. Just make a little extra sauce if adding more than the three cans in the recipe.
  17. ENJOY!
