Queens Biscuits (Sesame Seed Cookies)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup softened vegetable shortening (Crisco)
- 1 egg
- 34 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 5 cups flour
- 34 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 12 lb sesame seeds
- Cream sugar, shortening, and eggs.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup milk and the vanilla.
- Blend well.
- Sift flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
- Make a hollow in the center and gradually mix in the sugar, shortening, egg mixture.
- Mix well.
- If too dry, add remaining milk a little at a time.
- It should be soft, manageable dough.
- Pat into a ball, wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate for 1/2 hour.
- Put sesame seeds in sieve and rinse.
- Drain well.
- Break of small pieces of the dough and roll into log shapes using your hands.
- Roll in sesame seeds.
- Place on cookie sheet and bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
