Turtle Candy

  1. Line baking pans with foil.
  2. Lightly butter foil.
  3. In a heavy saucepan, combine all ingredients except vanilla, nuts and chocolate.
  4. Cook, stirring with wooden spoon over low heat until sugar is dissolved.
  5. Cook hardball stage (244u0b0).
  6. Remove; stir in vanilla.
  7. Turn into prepared pan; let cool 30 minutes.
  8. Cut into 26 pieces.
  9. Roll into balls; place on buttered cookie sheet.
  10. Make feet and head by pressing 5 pecan halves into each ball.
  11. Melt chocolate.
  12. Spoon 1 teaspoon chocolate over each ball, leaving part of pecans showing.
  13. Refrigerate to allow chocolate to harden.
