Apple Pie In A Bag
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
- 2 1/2 lb. cooking apples (3 to 4 large apples)
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 c. soft butter or margarine
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0.
- Wash and peel apples, then quarter them.
- Cut each apple quarter into 4 pieces, making 7 cups of large chunks.
- In large bowl, toss apple chunks with a mixture of 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons flour; add nutmeg or cinnamon. Toss until apple chunks are fully coated.
- Fill pie shell, piling them high in middle of pie.
- Sprinkle with lemon juice. Thoroughly mix 1/2 cup each of sugar and flour and butter into a paste.
- Spread over top of apple chunks.
- Place in large brown paper bag, closing open end.
- Bake for 1 hour or until browned. Let cool in bag for 5 minutes before removing.
