Bavarian Crostini
- 14 cup butter or 14 cup margarine
- 1 large Spanish onion, thinly sliced
- 1 garlic clove, cut in half
- 12 teaspoon caraway seed, coarsely chopped
- 12 teaspoon salt
- French bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick) or Italian bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick)
- 14 lb quartered swiss cheese or 14 lb thinly sliced jarlsberg cheese
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees .
- In a 12" skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook onion, caraway seeds and salt, stirring occasionally, 14 minutes or until onions are golden.
- Meanwhile, on baking sheet, arrange bread slices.
- Bake 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
- When cool slightly rub with garlic cloves.
- Evenly top each bread slice with onion mixture, then cheese.
- Bake 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- Serve hot.
