Southern Bean Cassorole
- 1-1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 3/4 cup chopped onion
- 3/4 cup chopped celery
- 3/4 cup chopped green pepper
- 1 can (lg.) baked beans (molasses style)
- 1 can (sm.) baked beans (molasses style)
- 1/2 tsp. thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce,
- to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Brown first 4 ingredients together.
- Drain any fat if needed.
- Mix in remaining ingredients and cook on the stove top for 5 minutes to heat through.
- Transfer to a cassarole dish and bake at 350F for about two hours, stirring every 20 minutes or so.
- Add a little water if it looks like its drying out.
- When done you want it to run a little, not just glop on the plate.
